Public Health is a good career choice for me?

You have probably heard of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) if you were alive in 2020. Did you know that the CDC is by definition the country’s most important public health agency? The CDC is more than responsible for managing COVID-19 research, messaging and information distribution. The CDC is responsible for responding to urgent health threats and also for addressing big health issues that affect Americans such as disability or death. The CDC is a stethoscope in hand and pressed into the heart of America. If you are impressed by the CDC’s mission and looking for a rewarding career, you don’t need to look far beyond your own experiences to decide if public health is a good choice for you.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released its latest summary of employment projections, which shows that six million of the new jobs for 2019-2029 are in the healthcare and social assistance sector. The main reasons for this increase in growth for healthcare are the aging baby boomers and those with chronic conditions. Public health professionals provide the services and programs that these people require. They can deliver them in many settings. Public health services are available in:

  • Government agencies
  • Local and state health facilities
  • Hospitals and clinics
  • Nursing homes

These public health professionals might assume leadership roles in management and administration, such as Public Health Director or Researcher, Biostatistician, Epidemiologist or Congressional Staffer. A Master’s in Public Health (MPH) is a requirement to be a medical or health services manager. The average salary for this position is $104,280 per year. The highest pay is $116,380 annually for government jobs. Pay can vary depending on the environment. You can earn $112,870 annually in a hospital, $105,690 in an outpatient centre, $94,240 per year in a physician’s practice, and $89,880 per year in residential care facilities. While there are differences in the job functions and demographics of each area, one thing unites them all is their excellent compensation.

Public health is an excellent career choice for both personal and professional reasons. This allows people to have an impact on their local communities, the healthcare system, and in times of global crisis. No matter what path you choose, a Master’s degree in Public Health can also promise great earning potential. Now the question is: “Is an MSPH a good degree?”

A MPH degree is an excellent choice for people who wish to pursue a career in management or public health. If you are looking for adaptable knowledge, it is a great degree. Goodwin University MPH students can choose from one of three concentrations: Community Health or Global Health. The core curriculum, which includes the cornerstones of public health such as Research Methods, Principles of Epidemiology, Emergency Management Health Issues, is followed by concentration-specific courses that help you begin defining your career. Learn how to tackle the most pressing public health issues today: food safety, stroke prevention, nutrition, mental health, and motor vehicle accidents. After graduation, you will be able to test your knowledge in the area of your expertise.

Public health careers are more flexible than those in other healthcare fields, which often require a specific path to obtain certification or licensure. The variety of concentrations and environments available to professionals with advanced degrees is a testament to this flexibility. Research in business has shown that adaptability, flexibility, and versatility are key factors to a successful career. Public health is an excellent choice for people interested in health but who want to learn more about alternative approaches and environments. You will be able to adapt and move up in leadership positions with great rewards.

How do you navigate this career path?

You must meet the following requirements to apply for Goodwin University’s MPH Program. These will ensure you are ready to pursue advanced studies:

  • Send in a graduate application.
  • Provide a professional resume.

You should attach a transcript from your Bachelor’s Degree from a Council for Higher Education Accredited College or University. This document will show that you have at least 2.0 GPA.

Also, we recommend you write 500 words on why you are interested in public health. Goodwin University admissions are not based on GRE scores. Letters of recommendation and interviews are also not required. People with a variety of undergraduate degrees, including nursing, law and social sciences, education, business, politics, science, and communications, can take the MPH path.
